True North

A house of cards
Is a wonderful thing!
It takes resourcefulness
(Not to mention a steady hand)
and a truckload of determination.
One day a card was removed
So swiftly, so surely
That although the entire earth shuddered
The house stood.
Wait! Hang on! Did that - what?
There's a compass in all of us
Swinging wildly
And it will jump, as usual,
To the usual conclusion
But if you're lucky (ha! she thinks)
You'll be privileged
Out of that corner of the eye where
Nothing lies
To get a glimpse of true north.
